Providenciales, 12 Nov 2015 – Today the House of Assembly convenes for debate in the Capital, Grand Turk and on the agenda is the Micro Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bill 2015. Premier Rufus Ewing and Finance Minister Washington Misick spoke to the efforts for developing small and medium sized businesses when they met with media last week.
Premier, Hon. Rufus Ewing: “…and that is one of the deliverables under the country strategy as well, to help to support the establishment and operations of such entities and enhancing our capabilities in small and medium size enterprises.”
Hon Washington Misick, Finance: “Initially what the government is doing is providing direct cash grants to small start-ups and other concessions through and from its own budget.”
Dr. Justin Ram, CDB Economics Director: “To have worships to assist the owners of SMEs. I think in countries like TCI and all small states in the Caribbean that it is important for our business owners to understand that they need to think about economies of scale and to think about selling their products beyond the domestic market.”
Dr. Justin Ram, Director of Economics at the Caribbean Development Bank was a part of that press conference and agreed that the loan potential of $100 million includes their expertise in growing corporate TCI.
