Providenciales, 27 Oct 2015 – Thirty-four days from now, the Voter Register for the Turks and Caicos Islands will close and anyone not on it will not be able to vote in the 2016 General Elections.

During a public education campaign, the Supervisor of Elections, Dudley Lewis gave the rules for participation.

At the time, it was stressed that mainly new voters and young people were not registering, in large part, at the time due to charges related to getting a Belonger Status Card.

In August, the PNP Administration announced a temporary waiver of fees from August 15th to December 1st for individuals applying for documents associated with voter registration. This measure included any fees attached to getting birth certificates, death certificates or the Islander status card for those of voting age and who were not yet already on the voters’ list.

According to the Elections Office, this impacts as many as 2,700 people. In March, it was revealed that 7,247 people out of a pool of ten thousand were registered to vote in the TCI.

Again, only 34 days before voter registration is closed.
