Revved Up Voter Registration as 2016 Elections approach

Providenciales, 28 Oct 2015 – The Elections Supervisor today confirmed that voter registration is booming. Dudley Lewis said to Magnetic Media that, “since the Government waived fees for documents to register to vote, there has been a drastic increase in the number of persons registering.”

There had been concern expressed that the cost to get a National Status card was affecting voter registration and despite initially shunning that report, the PNP Administration eventually worked in Cabinet to see that fees were waived for first time voters.

A National Status card is mandatory to be included on the voter register. The announcement was made in August; the waiver lasts until December 1 as voter registration ends on November 30.

Up to March 2014, Mr. Lewis said that there were nearly 3,000 eligible voters still unregistered, the bulk of whom are youth.
