Providenciales, 21 Oct 2015 – Intermittent downpours have waterlogged main thoroughfares and neighborhoods and forced the TCI’s Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies to issue its own notice about what to expect and what to do as the rain continues in all of the islands.
Localized flooding once again made many roads impassable and windy conditions caused DDME to advise that outdoor furniture be stored away.
According to the Bahamas Met Office, this is a cluster of thunderstorms, very large and moving across the very islands which were just drenched in Hurricane Joaquin. Dangerous lightning, strong gusty winds, heavy downpours, possible hail, waterspout and tornadic activity are all on the list of effects; boaters are warned to seek safe harbour and it is also said to be a bad idea to stand under trees, as they can become conductors in those lightning storms.
Public Works and DDME did some assessments yesterday and issued a caution to motorists, flood prone areas and advised that due to the high tide and rainy conditions, pumping will not likely begin until sometime today.
