Providenciales, 14 Oct 2015 – Today the Governor and Police Commissioner will give the media a debriefing on the first meeting of the recently formed National Security Council. The Council was established in the wake of a spike in crime for 2015, which includes a 100% increase in murder cases.

The Governor following his meeting in Miami with other Caribbean overseas territories governors determined the council was worth activating. During Cabinet meeting at the start of the month, it was revealed that there would be a convening of that Council today and that among the topics to be discussed: consideration to responses to current security risks and longer term strategies and to finalise membership of the proposed wider National Security Advisory Council to include representatives from the Opposition, the business, education and church communities.

The Premier and Border Control Minister will also be in that meeting this morning. In the TCI, the Governor heads national security. The Premier and Official Opposition leader have both endorsed the notion of the National Security Council.
