Caribbean Countries working on insurance plans for national affordability of healthcare

Providenciales, 29 Oct 2015 – Caribbean governments see improvements in their primary health care systems as a key means to dramatically reducing the cost of healthcare and improving the overall health of their people; this was expressed in a multi-national panel discussion this morning on day two of the Caribbean Health Financing Initiative Conference which is being staged at the Regent Palms Resort.

Represented on the panel were Jamaica, Belize, the British Virgin Islands and the Turks and Caicos in Premier and Health Minister, Dr Rufus Ewing. It is the second time the conference is being held in the TCI and the high level talks center on how Caribbean governments can reduce the costs to the public purse for providing such an essential service.

The conference is hosted by the NHIP and has so far featured presentations on the TCI’s health insurance plan and proper policies for Caribbean countries developing a sustainable approach to healthcare.
