Providenciales, 22 Oct 2015 – It has been a long time appeal from the Opposition’s side of the House of Assembly for the country to engage in a National Agenda think tank and strategy development; and during House convening last week, PDM member, Hon Goldray Ewing saw his motion scrape through to be passed.

The PDM motion got 100% support from their side and Governor’s Appointed member, Hon John Philips cast a vote in favor of the National Agenda which pushed the motion through.

Ewing focused heavily on Border Control and called on “the British to effectively carry out its constitutional responsibility of internal and external security and cited what he called, “the low staff morale of the Marine Police Branch, the loss in millions of dollars in marine products due to poachers on the fishing banks together with high repatriation costs of illegal migrants, the illegal entry of weapons and drugs” and the Member in his presentation called the current Immigration laws, ‘lax.’

The PNP side largely voted against the motion, which was seconded by PDM Leader Sharlene Robinson, there was an abstention from voting by Normal Saunders, the PNP member from South Caicos.

Hon Goldray Ewing said he was disappointed that such a national issue saw such a hard Party line taken by the Government.
