Providenciales, 03 Sept 2015 – Ten questions and an opportunity to comment makes up the online survey the Ministry of Border Control and Employment has created as it aims to establish a Turks and Caicos Islanders Status ordinance.
Among the questions put to the general public are whether one supports the enactment of the bill; whether a child born in the TCI should be automatically a Turks and Caicos Islander if their parent is a PRC holder or British Overseas Territory Citizen; if islander status should go to a spouse after seven, nine or ten years; if there should be a commission established which would have the power to revoke or take back TCI status and how often that body, if set up, should meet.
The public is encouraged to attend these discussions to get a better understanding of what the Status Bill and Immigration Bill are all about. The meeting will resume on Thursday September 3rd the first one at 10am at the Salt Shed in Salt Cay and the other at 6pm at the Regatta Village in South Caicos.
