Providenciales, 03 Sept 2015 – The PDM Leader is troubled by the hastiness to pass the 2015 Immigration & Status Bill as the Government is preparing to, as the PDM put it, force through the Bills on September 14, 2015.
In October the PDM was successful in halting the Bill due to lack of consultation and public awareness on the changes within the Immigration & Status Bill however the party is now saying that more time should be given so that a detailed approach outlining what exists now, what is being proposed and the reasons for same can be better understood by all.
The responses from individuals at the first public meeting in Provo prompted the PNP’s own Party Treasurer to ask the Minister publicly for a longer educational process. The one week of public consultation left many heads spinning, says the PDM Leader, and ignited concerns over the rushed and hurried approach to something so critical and fundamental.
Hon Sharlene Robinson adds, that during the last House of Assembly Meeting on an immigration amendment, the Government had no statistics or pressing information to support their hurried approach on its major policy change.
The PDM is calling on the government to take another look at its Bills, engage in meaningful educational and informative consultations that would take into account the wishes of the people.
PDM Leader says that there should be a proper balance between adequate protections for TCIslanders and the need for growth in the country.
