Providenciales, 28 Sept 2015 – In an effort to preserve the natural beauty of TCI and provide a safe clean environment for marine life, DEMA successfully carried out a countrywide clean up campaign in commemoration of International Coastal Clean-up Day.

DEMA in a news release said 356 people worked together and collected 372 bags of trash from various beaches, bushes and roads.

Earlier in September, DEMA’s coastal clean up initiative saw support from 31 organizations, an encouraging increase from last year’s 17. Lots of volunteers also turned out early that Saturday morning to fight for Trash-Free Seas.

Amy Avenant, DEMA’s Environmental Outreach Coordinator said, “Litter is still a big problem but DEMA is encouraged by both the growth of this initiative, and other independent cleanups”

The TCI Tourist Board and TCI Waste Disposal helped with the disposal of the collected garbage, on Providenciales.
