Providenciales, 28 Aug 2015 – The UK Royal Navy could be in the Turks and Caicos Islands within 24 hours if a storm hits. So says DDME Director, Dr. Virginia Clerveaux who told media at a press conference today that the Navy is “close by” in the Caribbean and on standby to provide rescue in the event of a national catastrophe.

“We are in constant contact with the Royal Navy through the Governor’s Office and the FCO,” Clerveaux told media today.

The ship is equipped to evacuate 1,600 persons at one time and supplied with enough food for one week.

Nearly 200 officers from the Royal Naval were in the Turks and Caicos early August to conduct training and emergency assessment with the Department of Disaster Management.
