Document fees waived for new eligible voters

Providenciales, 07 Aug 2015 – It was explained months ago by the Elections Commissioner that the cost of documents to get a Belonger Status Card and thus being registered to vote was hurting the registration process.

Dudley Lewis, Elections Supervisor, in an interview with Magnetic Media said he hoped something could be done to re-invigorate interest especially among the younger members of the electorate. At that time, the PNP Administration told us they did not see the fee as a deterrent. Well yesterday, that position changed and government is now prepared to wave document fees to spurn on voter registration.

It was shared last September that: “…if persons do not register their names cannot be added to the Preliminary List or Register and they will not be able to exercise their Democratic right to vote whenever general elections is called.

The next General Election for the TCI is next year in 2016.
