Caribbean sizzles in Beijing, Bolt still the Best

Providenciales, 24 Aug 2015 – The Caribbean is doing exceptionally well at the IAAF World Championships being held in the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing, China.

Usain Bolt of Jamaica retains his title as the World’s greatest sprinter after winning in 9.79secs, the men’s 100m final and beating the indomitable Justin Gatlin of the USA.

Still to come, the 400m finals where for the men there are favorites like Kirani James of Grenada, Chris Brown, Michael Mathieu and Shawn Gardiner of The Bahamas; Rusheen McDonald of Jamaica who had the top time in round one of the 400m heats; Luguelin Santos and Gustavo Cuesta of the Dominican Republic and three from Trinidad and Tobago, including: Machel Cedenio are all in.

The 100m women’s finals were sizzling too, where both Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell Brown of JA advanced and the 400m women’s where a number of Caribbean region sensations including Shaunae Miller of The Bahamas go on to the next round.

Unfortunately our Ifeanyi Otuonye (TCI) competed on Monday morning China time, but got no marks and missed out on advancing in the long jump at the championships.

On August 29, the 4x400m relay is set and it is expected that Delano Williams of Grand Turk will compete then for Team Great Britain.

Jamaica is the only Caribbean country so far to have medalled; a gold and bronze make up their lot and gives them fourth place overall in the IAAF medal standings.
