Radar Station getting upgrades

Providenciales, 23 Jul 2015 – The radar station is working toward some technical upgrades and Supervisor of the Coastal Radar Station Rodman Johnson recently chaired a session where a US company was invited to show the potential of the coastal radar which is situated in Five Cays.

Rodman in speaking to officials from Border Control including the Permanent Secretary, Assist Commissioner of Police and the new director of the Department of Maritime Affairs: John Clayvon allowed President and CEO of the Mariner Group, Steve Dryden to give live demonstrations of their company’s products and services which should work to better manage the station which is manned 24 hours a day.

Border Control Minister Donhue Gardiner believes the session revealing: “The exercise showed the magnitude of the emerging threats and while we can learn from the past, the Turks and Caicos Islands can be better served by looking at systems such as the one presented in articulating and developing our strategies for now and the future.”

Tenders are now invited for a project which will see the coastal radar’s monitoring cabin, expanded.
