Providenciales, 01 Jun 2015 – The consultation on the new employment bill continues, as the new law is meant to completely replace the current ordinance and outlines among other things equal pay for equal work. In section 35 of the bill which has now been Gazetted and distributed to the general public and business community; it is outlined that men and women working the same job should get the same pay. The section defines equal remuneration as rates of remuneration that have been established without differentiation based on the grounds of gender; and in part B of the section it adds, the explanation that work of equal value means work equal in value in terms of the demands it makes in relation to such matters as skill levels, duties, physical and mental effort, responsibility and conditions of work. The consultation process was announced on May 18th; deadline for public comments is Friday June 12, 2015.
