Providenciales, 18 May 2015 – Residents on Friday again showed social consciousness by taking the POP challenge; they put on purple in solidarity with the world acknowledgement of Lupus Day. This week, the health focus shifts to another major killer and health dilemma within our region, within our islands…Ministry of Health reminds of World Hypertension Day, under the theme: “Know your Blood Pressure Numbers.” However, the Ministry says it wants to do more than mark the day… a three pronged approach was rolled out in a weekend media statement. Government says it will promote awareness of a healthy lifestyle, which is both simple and cost effective; work on detecting high blood pressure early through community outreach at primary health care centres across the Turks and Caicos Islands and ensure access to and utilization of basic non-chronic communicable disease medications. Look for Health and National Health Insurance Board to team up for awareness programs this week.
