Providenciales, 01 May 2015 – Pastors are calling on officials to stop licensing secular events on Sundays; to keep the sanctity of the day. The request by the Providenciales Ministerial Fellowship comes weeks before members of the Haitian community prepare to host a Haitian Flag Day festivity on a Sunday in May. Bishop Bryant Cox, Bishop Samuel Williams, Bishop Andrew Stone and Father Bernard Been yesterday called on government and authorities to safeguard the day, as the Turks and Caicos is constitutionally and traditionally a Christian nation.

The Pastors explained that they have no problem with public cultural festivities but will not stand for large secular events on a Sunday. It was also said that the plan is not to single out any particular community, but the clergy men were solid on the point that they must start somewhere. The PMF reminded that beyond the events becoming more regular on Sundays, they also fly in the face of country laws which prohibit the sale of alcohol on Sundays.
