Providenciales, 22 May 2015 – National Heroes Day is on Monday and it could be the final time the country celebrates just one Turks and Caicos Islander on the day. The late James Alexander George Smith McCartney- the first Chief Minister – is the lone national hero as the father of truer democracy and local governance… but with a now activated National Honors and Awards Committee, residents have been admonished to nominate islanders they feel are worthy of the highest prize. After this year, JAGS will be referred to as the Most Excellent JAGS. National Heroes Day is held in concert with US Memorial Day; and it is a bank holiday.
