Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands (March 24, 2015) – Since 2009, FortisTCI based in Providenciales, has had the pleasure of hosting one of the largest walkathons in the Turks and Caicos Islands. This event from inception has encouraged participants to step into spring on a healthy foot. This year was no different as the Providenciales community came out in droves to ring in spring and promote healthy living among all.
With well over 500 participants, citizens, residents, and visitors came together for a morning of fun, family, friends, healthy food, and fitness activities. The morning started with a warm-up, followed by the walk, run, and cycle events before opening activity stations, health screenings, and serving the traditional TCI Saturday hot breakfast, a usual hit with the crowd.

Prizes were awarded to this year’s fastest runners and cyclist.
Top male and female in the 10K route were: Lofton Seymour and Rebecca Bernadine. Top male and female FortisTCI employees in the 10K route were: Verdieu Nore and Kebba Morgan. Each winner took home a Nutribullet Pro 9000 to help them keep up their healthy lifestyles.

The first place cyclist was Cameron Thompson, who was awarded a Sigma ROX 5.0 cycling computer.
The first child (under 13) to cross the finish line was Justin Parker. Justin received a Kindle Fire HD6.
The largest corporate group in attendance was once again Scotia Bank with 28 employees present at the time of counting. Their group went home with gym bags and exercise goodies.

FortisTCI President and CEO Eddinton Powell said, “Since moving to the Turks and Caicos Islands, I have noticed something different in the mornings and the evenings. I see more people walking and running alongside the roadways, on the track, and in the gyms. That means that people have become more health conscious and living better, healthier lifestyles. We as employees of FortisTCI and members of the TCI community, want to be a part of this healthy movement and will continue to promote healthy living through this event and others just like it each year.”
FortisTCI wishes to express thanks to the Honourable Premier and Minister of Health, Agriculture and Human Services, Dr. Rufus Ewing for bringing remarks, the Ministry of Health Nursing Team who assisted with blood sugar and high blood pressure testing, the Royal Turks and Caicos Police Force for ensuring participants were safe while on the road, the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team, Pastor Colby from Healing Waters Ministries for offering blessings, Ainara from Graceway Sports Centre for conducting the warm-up and cool-down, the National Cancer Society, the Diabetes Association, the Red Cross, Provo Roadrunners, Junior Achievement group Island Jewels, Members of the Media, and the FortisTCI 2015 Spring Fun Walk & Run Committee and supporting staff and volunteers.
