Providenciales, 26 Feb 2015 – They will continue as competitors until the deal is done; it came from LIME first and then was reinforced with a brief statement from Islandcom later today. Marketing Specialist at the company, Chandra Craigg said: “We are deeply saddened that we will no longer be able to provide wireless services in Turks & Caicos. We believe that, despite ongoing significant investments in the business there is no room for a third competitor in the TCI market. While we have reached an agreement to sell our network and business to LIME, regulatory approval is required.” That fact has been confirmed too by the TCI Telecommunications Commission but it appears that there is nothing really hindering an acquisition which will give LIME a much stronger footing in a market where they were once the sole provider of services.
Craigg added, “LIME is focused on providing best in class Mobile and Broadband networks, and we believe that they will be able to serve our customers well. We believe that data connectivity (mobile and home broadband, consumers and corporate) is a key element for the future growth and success of our business, and that LIME has the expertise and positioning to provide that to our customers.” The disappointment amongst other staffers of Islandcom was palatable; the store had been closed for a brief time today, likely as staff was informed of the decision. Islandcom explained in that statement that: “our most important task is to continue serving our customers in our usual high standards in the time being to help them through this transition.”
