GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS SPENDING SMART SAYS HOUSE COMMITTEE

Providenciales, 16 Dec 2014 – Government spending is curtailed because government departments are for the most part staying within budget; chair of the Appropriations committee, Government Appointed Member Ruth Blackman said during House of Assembly debate yesterday that the committee was impressed with the ability of these departments to colour within the lines, so to speak: “…and we really commend Permanent Secretaries for staying within their budgetary allocations and ensuring that they met their financial targets as was set out within the budget.”

The comments came as the members began debate on giving to government an additional $5.5 million dollars as an extra to the budget already approved since July. This request for more money was strongly criticized by the Opposition side, which says the under-allotments coupled with a four month late start on the fiscal year affects development and capital works.
