Providenciales, 18 Nov 2014 – Finally, an agreement on the text in that Memorandum of Understanding which is to be signed by the Haitian and Turks and Caicos Islands’ governments, soon. The Governor, His Excellency Peter Beckingham led a three person delegation to Haiti where there was not only solidification on the wording within that MOU but talks with EU, The Bahamas, Canadian, US and UN Ambassadors in Haiti and an exploration of other potentials for Haiti and Turks and Caicos. The governor has agreed to assistance for the Haitian government with registering its citizens living in these islands… a process which has been an ongoing challenge. H.E. in a media release yesterday cautioned:

“The MOU will not suddenly change the relationship nor immediately reduce illegal migration, but it is an indication of the seriousness with which both Governments view the growing relationship.” As for when the text of that agreement will be released, HE said after the signing… no date was given for that event.
