Providenciales, 3 Nov 2014 – A near ten year member of the finance team of the country was arrested today; Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Athenee Harvey was arrested by the Integrity Commission for an incident dating back to August 7, 2014.  The arrest followed weeks of investigation in the aftermath of scandalous reports and commentary about Harvey and others’ alleged attempt to duck out on paying customs duty.

In a strange irony, this is the very tax, Harvey, who was appointed as the Permanent Secretary by former Governor Ric Todd in November 2012 is mandated to calculate as a leading source of government revenue.    Harvey, who got $2,000 bail and one surety will face two counts of corruption in breach of Section 44 of the Integrity Commission Ordinance at the Grand Turk Magistrates court on December 1, 2014.

Athenee Harvey is also a member of the government’s recently appointed, Blue Ribbon Commission.
