Hurricane Gonzalo on Bermuda

Providenciales, 20 Oct 2014 – Bermuda was badly hit by the fierce Category Four Hurricane Gonzalo on the weekend; clean up happening now. Gonzalo caused power cuts to 31,200 homes and the hospital, although two-thirds of people had their electricity restored by Saturday afternoon, according to the Bermuda Electric Company.

The hurricane also caused flooding, felled trees and damaged buildings. Magnetic Media is told the HMS Argyll was en route to Bermuda Friday… The Type 23 Frigate, HMS Argyll, on a flag flying mission in the Caribbean, was diverted by the Royal Navy to Bermuda, a UK overseas territory, to help with humanitarian aid.

Argyll and her resources – which include medical personnel – will assist in the restitution of power and water supplies and of communications systems. The frigate’s Lynx helicopter will also carry out surveillance missions.
