Cases of Ebola worldwide are at 8,400 with deaths at just under half of that… 4,000 people including one in the United States. Now Brazil, on Friday, has reported its first suspected case; the 47 year old man from Guinea having come into contact with 64 others who are being monitored.
This news breaks as the US over the weekend revealed, that despite all of the protective gear and proper procedures, a health care worker who tended to the Liberian patient, Thomas Eric Duncan in Dallas, is now positive for Ebola and in isolation; the nurse is being called a hero and she is in stable condition.
This virus, which will cause the Turks and Caicos to spend an estimated $350,000 in preparation according to the Ministry of is believed too big to bear for most countries in the Americas. The top U.S. commander for Central and South America warned this week, that many Western countries aren’t equipped to deal with the disease. Dr. Nadia Astwood, Turks and Caicos Medical Director gave assurances though that local health workers were ready… side-stepping allegations by Annamae Williams family that no one at the Cockburn Town medical center wanted to touch their relative who was vomiting and gasping for breath… pointing possibly to a fear among medical personnel….
53 year old Williams eventually died in hospital; she had tested positive for Dengue Fever. Her cause of death is still officially undetermined.
