TCI Residents Calling For Improved Drainage System

Published

The extreme and immobilizing flooding in the aftermath of TS Cristobal had residents calling for an improved drainage system; and charging that successive governments of the Turks and Caicos lacked foresight and political will. When we asked the Premier about this during an early press conference he said the drainage was working, that it was good but that he had asked his Minister of GSS to prepare some ideas to alleviate the challenges of flooding going forward. We asked the PDM the same thing during that one on one after three members toured North and Middle Caicos; former Chief Minister Derek Taylor said acquiring land for wells and roadways is key. Party Leader Sharlene Robinson said there needs to be standards set and kept by government as some with government given land were water logged.
