More volunteers and more financial support needed for a more successful conch fest.
Public Relations Officer, Algernon Dean, told media the event has made major strides and is consistently growing, but the event costs organizers some $15-$20, 000 to get off the ground.
This year the Conch fest had more activities and competitions to keep its patrons entertained. It was the first time, for the Premier’s Conch knocking competition which the Premier Hon. Rufus Ewing, reportedly sponsored at $1000 of his personal money. As Culture and Tourism minister, Ewing told us that will event will expand the challenge for next year.
Fresh off a win at the Island street food fair, Mr. Grouper 1st proving to be an eatery power house, getting 1st place for best Conch Chowder… while Bay Bistro won best Conch Salad and the Conch Specialty dishes.
Hemingway’s restaurant was the people’s choice winner this year.
