The Turks and Caicos working population has the highest incidence of HIV/AIDS… 25 to 39 years olds are charting the highest numbers in the country.

The National AIDS Programme has reported 22 new cases for 2011 and 13 for 2012; with a decrease in cases passing from mother to child. There was a march of solidarity on Sunday and a cocktail reception at the Edward Gartland Youth Center last night to locally observe December 1st, which is World AIDS day.

HIV/ AIDS numbers have been tumbling in the Caribbean, with a 42% drop in new cases between 2005 and 2011. Throughout the course of this week the National AIDS Programme will provide free, quick & confidential testing on Provo and Grand Turk.

A mobile testing unit will be in the Blue Hills area today Dec. 3rd, tomorrow the unit will be in the Five Cays community and on Wednesday in the Bight. The team will close off the week of testing under the clock in Grand Turk on Friday Dec.6.
