The Minister of Education, the Hon. Akierra Missick has announced that in response to concerns raised with several business interests in the private sector, the government will seek to review the number of holidays the Turks and Caicos celebrates.

The minister explained that the two in focus are Columbus Day which may either be totally removed from the country’s calendar or be renamed to Discovery Day or TCI Day.

The other holiday up for question is the recently celebrated International Human Rights Day which the minister says may either be removed as well or just observed.

The current number of public holidays the TCI has for a year is 12. The issue will be discussed at today’s Cabinet meeting.
