PROVIDENCIALES,TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS,OCTOBER 24,2013- Business reportedly disappointed with the government…The TCHTA and the TCI Chamber of Commerce have expressed grave disappointment in the government’s recent decision to increase Customs Processing Fee and implement a 12% taxation on other services related to the tourism industry. The organizations say the move will not only undermine the Tourism and Hospitality industry but also cripple the overall growth of the nation.
The TCHTA added that, the increase CPF fee from 6% to 7.5% and the 12% taxation of services such as spas, water sports and excursions like fishing and diving which comes into effect next week Friday November 1st came as a slap in the face to TCHTA board members and businesses in general as there was no consultation with the sector. The TCHTA say such actions by the government is deemed unacceptable and is contrary to the spirit of working together in a Public & Private Partnership, called a common rhetoric of the Government.
