Localized flooding after only a few hours of rain

Motorists on Providenciales were yesterday forced to either deviate to other routes or in most cases crawl through the high levels of water collected on the island’s roadways particularly in the areas of the Bight, the lower end of Millennium Highway, and even sections of Leeward Highway.

Some residents were confined in their yards as large pools of rainwater congregated submerged even their door steps.

The situation once again brings to the forefront the need for a better drainage system on the island and the need for the relevant authorities to sit and put a plan together on how to better collect these huge volumes of rainfall, a precious natural resource in the TCI…

Also residents on several islands including Provo, Grand Turk and North Caicos experienced power outages over the weekend and even yesterday. Digicel and LIME customers also suffered over the weekend as mobile and internet services were disrupted during and after a severe lightening and thunderstorm, early Saturday morning
