OCTOBER 8, 2013- The Caribbean Court of Justice last Friday awarded US$75,000 to 25 year old Shanique Myrie. Myrie claimed she was denied entry and subjected to a body cavity search and detained overnight in a cell before being expelled from Barbados. Myrie initiated court proceedings in May 2012, where she alleged that Barbados had violated her right to free movement within the CARICOM community and claimed that she was discriminated against because of her nationality. Myrie is now being hailed as a hero.
