World Tourism Day

Today is also World Tourism Day, and the TCI Tourist Board is linking with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in its declaration under the theme, “Tourism & Water: Protecting Our Common Future”.

In fact, the Board says that our small islands are not immune to the negative effects of the destruction of the rainforest in Indonesia, Brazil or Guyana; or to the pollution of the world’s lakes and oceans.

Tourism Minister Rufus Ewing thanks the UNWTO for highlighting the importance of tourism to the global economy and for bringing awareness of water to our personal and planet survival. He also noted, “The Turks and Caicos Islands is home to the world’s third largest barrier reef system and an abundance of marine life; the fabric of our entire industry is largely centered around water.
