BAHAMAS: SEVERE WEATHER WARNING UPDATE

#Nassau, June 10, 2019 – Bahamas – THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 11:20 AM EDT UNTIL 1:20 PM EDT MONDAY 10TH JUNE 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR BIMINI, NORTH ANDROS, NEW PROVIDENCE, BERRY ISLANDS, ABACO, GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 11:10 PM EDT OBSERVATION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED CLUSTERS OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MOVING TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE MENTIONED AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
