SEVERE WEATHER WARNING – BAHAMAS & TCI

#Nassau, May 18, 2019 – Bahamas – THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 1:05 PM EDT UNTIL 3:05 PM EDT SATURDAY 18TH MAY 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR SOUTH ANDROS, SOUTH ELEUTHERA, THE EXUMAS, INAGUA AND THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 1:00 PM LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED LINES AND CLUSTERS OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MOVING ACROSS AND TOWARDS THE WARNING AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN.

RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
