Severe Weather Alert for Abaco from Bahamas Met Office

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING UPDATE

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 2:10 PM UNTIL 4:10 PM FRIDAY 10TH AUGUST 2018.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR ABACO, GRAND BAHAMA, ANDROS AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.  

AT 12:34 PM LIGHTNING DETECTION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED A CLUSTER OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH NEAR BY TROUGHING MOVING TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE WARNING AREA.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
