#Bahamas, November 14, 2017 – Nassau – THIS IS A PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT TUESDAY 14TH NOVEMBER 2017 ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6AM

GENERAL SITUATION:  A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM ALONG WITH A BROAD LOW TO MID LEVEL TROUGH EXTENDING FROM CUBA TO ACROSS THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS CONTINUES TO STREAM DEEP TROPICAL MOISTURE INTO THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS THROUGH TONIGHT AND THE TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: MARINERS AND BEACHGOERS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION DUE TO HIGH RISK OF DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS AND ROUGH SURF ALONG NORTHERN AND EASTERN SHORELINES.

WEATHER: VARIABLE CLOUDY AND BREEZY WITH PASSING SCATTERED SHOWERS AND POSSIBLE ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS IN THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS …..MOSTLY CLOUDY TO OVERCAST SKIES WITH WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS, SOME OF WHICH MAY BECOME HEAVY TO SEVERE AT TIMES IN THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS AND THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS THROUGH TONIGHT.

ADVISORY: SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS AND SMALL CRAFT CAUTION IN THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS AND THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS.

WINDS: NORTHEAST TO EAST AT 15 TO 25 KNOTS IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS AND EASTERLY AT 15 TO 20 KNOTS IN THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS AND THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. WINDS GUSTY AT TIMES OVER ALL AREAS.

SEAS:5 TO 8 FEET OVER THE OCEAN IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS AND 4 TO 6 FEET IN THE SOUTHEASTERN ISLANDS…..LIGHT TO MODERATE NORTHEASTERLY TO EASTERLY SWELLS OVER THE OPEN ATLANTIC WATERS.

WEATHER: VARIABLY CLOUDY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS MAINLY OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN ISLANDS

WINDS: NORTHEASTERLY 15 TO 25 KNOTS IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS AND SOUTHWESTERLY AT 15 TO 20 KNOTS BUT OCCASIONALLY FALLING TO LIGHT IN THE SOUTHEASTERN ISLANDS

SEAS: 5 TO 8 FEET IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS AND 4 TO 6 FEET IN THE SOUTHEASTERN ISLANDS

 

FORECAST FOR  THURSDAY

WEATHER: PARTLY CLOUDY AND WARM WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS OVER THE EXTREME NORTHWEST AND SOUTHEASTERN ISLANDS INCLUDING THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS.

WINDS: NORTHEAST TO EAST 15 TO 20 KNOTS IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS, 10 TO 15 KNOTS IN THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS AND THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS.

SEAS: 4 TO 6 FEET IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS, 2 TO 4 FEET IN THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS

 

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: Showers and thunderstorms have increased a little during the past several hours in association with a low pressure system located about 400 miles south-southwest of the Azores.   Additional development of this system is Possible, and it could become a subtropical cyclone during the next couple of days before upper-level winds become unfavorable.  Regardless of development, this low is expected to produce winds to near gale force during the next day or two while it moves slowly northeastward.   Formation chance through 5 days is medium 50 percent. This does not pose a threat to our area.
