Turks and Caicos, July 11th 2017: Eight new recruited prison officers are ready to serve after graduating from their completed training. The officers received their certificates after a three week training period. They will now join Her Majesty’s Prison Service.
This represents the largest number of Prison Officers recruited to the Prison Service in recent times and comes after government announced plans to improve the prison systems including increasing manpower, while improved infrastructure is also on the cards. Plans are underway to introduce joint prison and private sector based prevention programs to equip inmates with skills that will help them succeed, once they return to society. The ceremony was held at the Salem Baptist Church in Grand Turk on Friday and was attended by Acting Governor Hon. Anya Williams, Minister with responsibility for Prison, Hon. Vaden Delroy Williams, Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Clara Gardiner OBE, and Prison Superintendent Mr. Steven Barrett, brought brief remarks during the ceremony.
