AG encourages girls to study ICT

Nassau, Bahamas May 1, 2017 At a forum in recognition of International Day of Girls in ICT on Thursday, Attorney General Allyson Gibson encouraged girls to pursue careers in ICT saying that studying ICT would leave them “never without a job.”

Gibson made the remarks International Telecommunication Union forum for the internationally-recognized day. Gibson said ICT was the fastest growing sector in the world, but lamented that colleges are not producing enough graduates to meet the demand. She also pointed out to attendees that women are underrepresented in the field with only 30 per cent of ICT jobs being currently held by females.

Gibson commended both the public and private sector for local ICT advancements particularly in mobile service, trade and the Registrar General’s office. She said ICT could empower young women to work in their communities. “You can pursue your dream from any Island in The Bahamas. The door to the world is open to you.”
